I love the composition. The path trailing off into the woods to the right suggests that the girl should be somewhere else, but that she has stopped here for some reason, possibly to swim in a pond that we cannot see. The colors are striking. If the green of the forest were brighter or in sharper focus I think the balance of the picture would change significantly for the better. Again, the girl looks as if she is somehow out of place, while her pose suggests that she hesitant about what she is doing there. like good prose the image begs us to ask "what is going on here."
The composition of the photo is its strongest quality. The blue dress seems incongruous in the wild rocky setting-- the girl looks as though she is dressed for a party and here it is entirely the opposite sort of place. So the dress makes the girl look vulnerable, out of place, perhaps scared. But it is a positive feature; it emphasises her purity, her need to be protected, comforted, saved.
I wonder if her gear by her feet could not have been eliminated from the composition. Its presence suggests she has come to this place en route to somewhere else, and is just dawdling here, which takes away from the feminine vulnerability. Having her in a cute blue dress in bare feet on the rocks without her gear nearby would suggest the frailty much better.
Leaving her face in shadow has kept the focus on the concept rather than this particular girl's own identity. The girl's pose, looking down with almost no idea that she is being observed, regarding the dress as though she has just realised it is wrong for the location, is also part of the composition strength. I only hope she is not considering taking it off-- as she has done with her coat and shoes!
